Youth at St. John's

What are we about?

St. John’s strives to be a place where youth in 6th-12th grades can grow in faith with friends under the guidance of awesome faithful mentors.  We aim to have fun and care for one another while learning to live Christian lives together.

Summer 2024 Amnicon Adventure

Middle and high school students will travel July 6-12 to Wisconsin for a canoeing and camping adventure on the Brule and Flambeau Rivers. Details about each trip can be found at the links below.

Youth Ministry

  • Middle School

    Confirmation

    Wednesdays, September-May, 6:15-7:30 pm

    6th-8th Grade – in Fellowship Hall

    Large group teaching of the story of scripture through curriculum led by the pastors and staff, followed by smaller group discussion time, guided by faith-filled adults.

    J-Term Collaborative Confirmation

    January is a chance for the ELCA youth in Northfield to come together and explore a variety of topics through the lens of faith.

    Sunday Youth Group

    Sundays, September-May, 9:45-10:30 am in the Youth Room

    On Sunday mornings, during the school year, middle school and high school youth gather together to talk about their week, explore faith questions, and connect with each other. And, of course, there are delicious treats!

    Camps & Special Events

    Each summer our youth take a trip together. This past summer, both the high school and middle school youth from St. John’s, St. Peter’s, and First UCC traveled jointly to Nashville, TN in June.

    During the school year, we often find ourselves playing night games at church, serving at places like Feed My Starving Children, The Key and Food Shelter, and having adventures like sledding, tubing, and canoeing day trips.  Check the online church calendar for upcoming events!

  • High School

    High School Youth Group

    Wednesdays, September-May, 6:15-7:30 pm in the Youth Room

    High School youth meet to connect with each other and explore what it means to live a life rooted in Christ. Each week will alternate between a combination of interest-driven faith discussions (guided by faith-filled young adult and parent volunteers, engagement in service projects, a “burning questions” time with the pastors, and a casual hangout time to foster friendships with one another.

    NOTE: 9th-grade youth are expected to attend this group as part of the Confirmation curriculum.

    9th Grade Mentors/Mentees

    Each student in 9th grade is paired with an adult mentor from the congregation to walk with them in exploring their faith and connecting it to everyday life.

    Summer Trips

    Each summer our high school group and middle school group take a trip together. This past June, both the high school and middle school youth from St. John’s, St. Peter’s, and First UCC jointly traveled to Nashville, TN.

    10th Grade Affirmation of Baptism

    In the fall of their 10th grade year, families, mentors, and the congregation celebrate with students as they affirm their baptism (the celebration that is often called Confirmation)
