St. John’s Wedding Policy
Congratulations! We are happy that you have decided to make public promises before God and loved ones. We at St. John’s honor the sacred nature of your relationship, and we look forward to helping you plan for this important event.
St. John’s Lutheran Church is a community that celebrates the beauty of God’s world together in multi-generational community. We believe marriage should be rooted in the steadfast love of God and supported by prayer. God’s faithfulness and self-giving love serve as models for the relationship within marriage. St. John’s as a community affirms and supports your decision to marry by offering opportunities to grow in faith, in fellowship and in your relationship with each other.
Since you have chosen to marry in a Christian church, your wedding at St. John’s will be a worship service with its primary focus on God. We follow a liturgy in which music and Scripture readings lend focus to the public vows you will make. The pastors, organist, wedding coordinator and other members of the St. John’s community will assist you in the preparation of your wedding service.
We hope this is a helpful initial source of basic information about weddings at St. John’s. We look forward to connecting with you in person! After you have looked at this information, if you have other questions or are interested in finding open dates, please contact the church office.
Information on member and non-member weddings at St. John’s
The church is available for weddings between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays, 4:00 p.m. being the latest we like to begin a ceremony. A typical ceremony is 30 minutes in length. Rehearsals are usually held at 6:00 p.m. the evening prior to the wedding and typically last 1 hour. Friday evening weddings are also possible, with the latest starting time being 6:00 p.m. Our sanctuary comfortably holds 200 and can extend to 300 if guests use the balcony as well. We have two fine pianos as well as our organ available for music.
The fees for 2015 cover the cost of providing quality support to you as you plan for your marriage and the wedding day itself. They include: a wedding coordinator; use of the Sanctuary, Commons, and changing rooms; pastor, organist, and custodian, two premarital sessions and administration fees. Total fees are $800. A deposit of $100 and a meeting with the pastor are required to reserve a wedding date. Facilities for weddings showers and receptions are available for separate fees. In cases of financial hardship, members may consult with the pastors for assistance.
All couples married at St. John’s must take part in premarital counseling. We work with Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota to get you started on the Prepare/Enrich inventory, with follow up by one of our pastors after the workshop of your choice. See http://www.lssmn.org/counseling/marriagePreparation/ for the 2015 dates, including a workshop offered here at St. John’s. Cost for this workshop is $185, paid separately to LSS. If scheduling with LSS is not possible, you may consult with one of the pastors for 1-1 counseling for the same fee.
To get started, schedule a meeting with the Senior Pastor or Associate Pastor by calling 507-645-4429.
