“Preach the Gospel at all times. When necessary, use words.” I’ve always appreciated this quote from St. Francis of Assisi because we are all called to be disciples of Christ and pastors to one another. On the other hand, we are not all gifted orators or pulpit preachers. For those of us that are not, we are not off the hook. We are called to preach the Gospel through our thoughts and actions. There has never been a sermon so refined that it can surpass the wisdom of kind actions and kind words in our day-to-day lives.
In the church, there are quiet disciples all around us. Whether serving in the kitchen of a funeral luncheon or counting the Sunday offering to make sure we have the financial resources to advance our mission and ministry or joining a prayer group to pray for those around us, you find angels everywhere you look.
Are you a disciple of Jesus? Would the people around you recognize it through your actions? Please get involved in the mission and ministry of St. John’s. Don’t leave the work of the church to someone else. Contact our Shared Ministry Coordinator at email@example.com. We need your hearts, minds and bodies, if not your voices. Praise be to God!
